ACCESSIBILITY & MOBILITY INFORMATION:

Are the Day Tour Pick-up Busses Accessible?

• There are approximately 6 steps into the bus.
• Please advise us prior to your travel date if you require us to stow a walker or pram under the bus for transit.

Is your Boat Accessible?

• Entry for all passengers is via ramp to both decks. • Please see below the measurements for the boat gangway, walkway and door for wheelchair or wheelie walker access:
o Boat Doorway: 700mm
o Gangway Width: 800mm
o Boat Walkway Width: 900mm
• The ramp to the top deck measurements:
o Ramp Width: 580mm
• Please advise us on booking if you have mobility concerns.
• Please contact us for self-drive bookings.

Is Smithy’s Outback Dinner & Show Accessible?

• Yes it is. We have:
o An accessible bathroom.
o Meals served to your table.
o Gluten Free, Vegetarian, & Kids meals available by request.
o Call or email us to discuss more extensive dietaries.
o Please call or email us for self-drive bookings.

Do you allow Assistance Animals on Day Tours?

• We welcome trained and certified assistance animals.
• Please call us to let us know and discuss any questions.

Are the Rail Motors Accessible?

• The carriages are heritage vehicles and aren’t yet wheelchair accessible.
• There is a step between the platform and the carriages.
• Some products require use of steps or include an unpaved walk – these are marked with a medium level of fitness.
• Please advise us if you require assistance to board.

Are the Multi-day Guided Holiday Tours Accessible?

• Mobility requirements differ per tour. Please call us to discuss.

What are the fitness requirements for Day Tours?

• Different tours have different fitness requirements, this is listed on each tour. For reference, the fitness levels we refer to are as follows:
o Low level of fitness – Generally wheelie-walker accessible facilities; please note a Carer is required should guests have mobility concerns with any facilities on tour or boarding the coach. Please contact us for any further accessibility information.
o Medium level of fitness – Guests have no mobility concerns and they have declared any pre-existing injuries which may affect their participation. Please note tours include leisurely walks. Not suitable for guests needing wheelie walkers or wheelchairs.
• Please note, the Darr River Rail run includes a guided Mulga Walk on a loose sandy surface for an approximate length of 369.1 meters

What are the fitness requirements for Guided Holidays?

• Different tours have different fitness requirements, this is listed on each tour. For reference, the fitness levels we refer to are as follows:
o Low level of fitness – minimal walking with some wheelie-walker accessible facilities. A Carer is required should guests have mobility concerns with any facilities on tour or boarding the coach as OAT team will not be available to assist. At no time should a tour be delayed from its operations.
o Medium level of fitness – guests have no mobility concerns and they have declared any pre-existing injuries which may affect their participation. Please note tours include leisurely walks that can be in excess of 1.5km on uneven, steep or slippery surfaces. Not suitable for guests needing wheelie walkers or wheelchairs.

How to get there?

• Train, plane, coach, or car, there are many ways to visit Outback Queensland! Longreach sits 1,180km North-West of Brisbane. There are daily Qantas flights from Brisbane to Longreach. Bi-weekly flights with Regional Express (REX) Airlines from Townsville to Longreach. The Spirit of the Outback train travels from Brisbane to Longreach twice a week. Greyhound buslines service Longreach multiple times a week. And we are connected to Brisbane, Rockhampton, and Mount Isa by sealed highways!
• Please advise us prior to your travel date if you require us to stow a walker or pram under the bus for transit.

Why should you book?

• We pride ourselves on being a locally owned and operated family business, with 35 years of experience touring the local area. We are proudly Savannah Guides accredited, and eco certified. Our passengers benefit from our strong relationships with station owners and great local characters.

When to book?

• Our main season is April to October, this is when the majority of the attractions in the local area will be operating. In the shoulder season months of March and November, we still run selected day tours experiences. We strongly recommend booking in advance, especially for our peak season in Winter as local tours and attractions do reach capacity prior to the experience dates.

Are you BYO for your cruises and train experiences?

• No, we have bars aboard the Boat, Train, and at Smithy’s Camp for your convenience. We take cash or card for payment, and have a selection of beer, wine, soft drink and select pre-mixes available.

Where is your office?

• We are located at the historic Longreach Railway Station, which is in the middle of town, along the Landsborough Highway in Longreach. Pop in to say hello and admire the charm of our 1916 heritage railway station.

Are you Queensland Rail?

• We are not. We work closely with Queensland Rail for our guided holiday tours, as well as sharing their track for our Outback Rail Adventure!

Are you Outback Pioneers?

• Our vessel is the M.V. Longreach Explorer! Our Top Deck boasts 360 Degree views of the Thomson River, our bar has cold drinks, and our skipper is trained to Savannah Guide Standards.

What boat do you have?

• Our vessel is the M.V. Longreach Explorer! Our Top Deck boasts 360 Degree views of the Thomson River, our bar has cold drinks, and our skipper is trained to Savannah Guide Standards.
• The M.V. Longreach Explorer is a 13.1 mitre catamaran with a steel hull. It weighs 28 Gross Tonnes. It has a bottom deck, and a top deck, so you can enjoy shade or a 360-degree view of the river.

Do you only do one cruise?

• During Winter we operate 3x cruising options:
o Drover’s Sunset Cruise with Smithy’s Outback Dinner & Show – 7 days a week
o Explorer’s Smoko Cruise – Tuesdays & Thursdays
o Smithy’s Arvo Cruise – Tuesdays & Thursdays
• During Spring and Autumn we offer the Drover’s Sunset Cruise with Smithy’s Outback Dinner & Show.
• During Summer we offer Smithy’s Sunset Cruise which is a 90 minute cruise on the Thomson River but does not include dinner.
o Please note that there are no cruises between December 20th – February 29th.

Do I get picked up?

• Our Cruises and Station tours include pickup and drop-off from all major accommodation houses and caravan parks in Longreach, as well as the Historic Longreach Railway Station, Mitchell Grass Retreat, and Apex Park.
• Muddy Duck Caravan Park – Please book your pickup for Apex Park and walk across the walking bridge between the caravan parks.
• Outback Rail Adventure tours start and finish at the Longreach Railway Station.
• Please refer to your booking confirmation for your pickup time, as these vary per location and sunset times.

What will I eat at Smithy’s Outback Dinner & Show?

• Dinner is alternate drop crispy skinned barramundi, or slow-cooked Camp-oven lamb ragu.
• We have seasonal alternate drop desserts,
• Freshly cooked Damper, butter & Syrup, served with your choice of tea or coffee.
• Food Allergies?
o Dinner & Dessert are Gluten Free. Please confirm with us prior to your travel date if you require gluten free damper
. o Dairy Free, Vegetarian, and, Kids meals available for pre-order by request.
o Call or email us to discuss more extensive food requirements.

I have a group of friends I’m travelling with.

What should I bring?

• Please bring warm clothing for any evening experiences, as it does get cold in the outback.
• We recommend bringing a hat for your cruise experience, as the Top Deck of the boat is open to allow the best possible views.
• Cash or Card for any drink purchases.
• Your camera or smartphone for great photos!

What is the Outback Rail Adventure?

• This year we are launching a range of Day Tours between June-October on our heritage Rail Motors. We have leased these beautiful carriages from Queensland Rail.
• Our first scheduled departure is the 24th of June 2023.
• We have a range of tour options including:
o Old Bluey Flyer
o The Great Darr River Run
o Historic Ilfracombe Excursion
o Silver-Tails Rail Sunset

I want more train info…

• Our Rail Motors were constructed in 1971 with 150hp/12.5 litre AEC Engines. They are 2000 class numbers RM2034 & RM2036 and weigh 22 tonnes.
• They were in service between 1971-2000, and in recent years ran special charter services such as the Carnival of Flowers in Toowoomba.
• The rail motors cost $88,300.00 in January 1971 and were manufactured by commonwealth engineering in Redbank Brisbane for Queensland Rail.

Where do I park for my Outback Rail Adventure?

• You can park at the Longreach Railway station, or the Longreach Council Day-parking facilities, or at Edkins Park across the road.
 Day Tour child rates?
• Child Rates are available for children aged 4yrs-14yrs.
• Infant Rates available for babies 0-3yrs. (No Meal)

Day Tour Terms and Conditions:

• All day tours, cruises and dinners are subject to availability and minimum numbers.
• Pick up times may vary due to operating in different seasons.
• Cancellation conditions apply: 48 hours and over – no penalty. Under 48 hours 100% of tour price.
Where a tour is cancelled by Outback Aussie Tours prior to the departure date, Outback Aussie Tours will use all reasonable endeavours to offer the nearest possible alternative tour (subject to refund or payment to cover any tour price difference) or, if this is not acceptable, refund the tour price.
• Please advise us well in advance if you have any dietary requirements or special needs.
• We have worked closely with Industry and Government to implement additional measures as outlined in our COVID safe plan to ensure the health and safety of our guests.
• Child rate 4-14 years.

GENERAL GUIDED HOLIDAY (MULTI-DAY) TOUR QUESTIONS:

Can I wash my clothes on a guided holiday tour?

• A list of washing facilities will be sent with your travel documents prior to travel.
• Please advise us prior to your travel date if you require us to stow a walker or pram under the bus for transit.

I don’t have a travelling companion, can I travel alone?

• We do take singles on our tours. Places are limited. Please check with us for availability.
• Unfortunately, we cannot match single travellers with other single travellers. If you wish to travel twin-share, please arrange your travelling companion.

Do I talk to you or my travel agent?

• You can book our tours and experiences either with your agent or our Reservations Team. To book with our Reservations Team please call 07 4658 3000 or email [email protected]

What’s included?

• Please refer to the individual tour itineraries where we have noted the transport, attractions, accommodation, and meals included in each tour.

What’s the deposit for a Guided Holiday?

• $200 per person is due within 7 days or upon confirmation of booking.

How do I pay for my tour?

• For our Guided Holidays our preferred method of payment is direct deposit, these details will be provided for you. We can take credit card payment over the phone as well.
• For Day Tours, we prefer to take payment at the time of booking with a credit card or cash. Payment can be taken over the phone or in person at our office at the Longreach Railway Station.
• Unfortunately, AMEX cards are not applicable.
• We don’t charge a credit card fee.

When will I get my Guided Holiday travel documents?

• Approximately 2-3 weeks prior to travel we will email your travel documents to you or your travel agent.

Can I combine 2 or more discounts?

• Our discounts are exclusive and cannot be combined.

Do you offer transfers to/from the airport?

• Most of our tours are packaged Brisbane-Brisbane, you will need to make your way to the Airport or Train station before and after the included transport.
• For tours that start or end in Cairns, you will need to make your own way to and from the Airport or Train station in Cairns.

Do you work with Travel Agents?

• Yes, we have worked with travel agents for over 30 years, please contact us if you are not already in our system. • Guided Holidays Brochures are available to order through TIFs.

What is my baggage allowance for a Guided Holiday?

• One small medium sized suitcase per person (approx. height 60cm – width – 40cm – depth 30cm) maximum weight 15kg. One piece of hand luggage/day pack may be carried onboard the coach. Drivers may require passengers to load heavy luggage into the storage compartment themselves for health and safety reasons. An additional charge may apply on excess baggage or excess weight. Due to limited space, the carriage wheelie-walkers must be requested prior to travel.
