We’ll arrive in time for lunch at the Archer River Roadhouse, located on the banks of the crystal-clear Archer River. Famous for the massive Archer Burger and best served with an icy cold drink under its shaded patio. Last stop for the day is Weipa, the Barramundi capital of Queensland. 2 nights Heritage Resort or Albatross Bay Resort, Weipa.

Day 6: Monday - Weipa

Learn about Weipa’s mining operations on a morning tour of the world’s largest bauxite mine, operated by Rio Tinto. Part of the historic Overland Telegraph Line, Moreton Telegraph Station was completed in 1887 and ceased operations in 1987 with the introduction of microwave telecommunications. Spot giant termite mounds as the country changes to the open plains of Heathlands Resources Reserve. Cool off in the lush Fruit Bat Falls with its crystal clear water (croc free), a perfect swimming spot and one of the most special places on the Cape. • Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait tour outstanding The Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait tour was outstanding. Guides Linda and Alex looked after us very well, telling numerous interesting stories and taking us to little extra places. The 4WD bus driven professionally by Alex was very comfortable: despite the rough, corrugated roads and creek crossings my back held up very well. The delicious healthy meals were all included, giving us happy group times each day, whether in restaurants or under shady tress along the road. Dietary requirements were always handled well. The accommodation was always clean and comfortable with ensuite bathrooms each night, and many 2-night stays. All the people on the tour were interested and punctual, making the trip happy and seamless. We saw so many interesting places, some with local guides such as the climb up Split Rock escarpment to see the Aboriginal Rock Art, and tours on Thursday Island and Horn Island. We all managed to climb to the most northerly tip of Australia and have our photos taken. Highly recommended!

  • We made it to "The Top" Our Cape York & Torres Strait Tour was a great experience. It was wonderful to be able to sit back and just enjoy the journey. The itinerary was well planned and offered lots of experiences. Our tour hosts were fabulous, making the trip relaxed and entertaining. Andrew, our bus driver, was a fountain of information. Friends & family who followed our trip via my Face Book posts were also impressed by the variety of places we visited and the range of cultural & historical experiences included. Would highly recommend.
