Day 1: Sunday – Longreach
Arrive in Longreach by the Spirit of the Outback train where you will be met by your Savannah Guides Operator driver-guide and transferred to your accommodation. Enjoy a welcome dinner and meet your fellow travellers.

Day 2: Monday – Longreach
This morning, immerse yourself in the fascinating themed galleries of the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame, where the inspiring stories of Australia’s pioneering heroes are brought to life. Then, take your seat for the Stockman’s Live Show, showcasing the remarkable skills still practised by today’s stockmen, from outstanding horsemanship to the excitement of a live cattle muster.
After lunch, explore the world-class Qantas Founders Museum and discover the remarkable story behind the founding of Qantas. Wander through engaging interpretive and interactive exhibits before joining a guided Airpark Tour, offering a close-up look at the aircraft that helped shape Australian aviation history.
Later, board the Heritage Rail Motors for the Silver-Tails Rail Sunset Tour, journeying through the ever-changing landscapes of the floodplains, Gidgee woodlands, Open Downs, Ghost Gums and Red Mulga country. As the sun begins to set, savour a selection of freshly prepared signature canapés, thoughtfully crafted to reflect the flavours of the region, while raising a toast to the spectacular outback sunset as daylight gently fades into the evening.
Return to Longreach to enjoy dinner with your fellow travellers and reminisce on memories made while immersed in the romance of rail.
Day 3: Tuesday – Longreach
This morning, enjoy the ever-changing outback landscapes as we journey to Winton. Upon arrival, visit the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum, spectacularly perched atop a scenic mesa, and join a guided interpretive tour of the laboratory and reception centre. After our museum visit, continue into Winton for lunch at the iconic North Gregory Hotel.
This afternoon, explore the Waltzing Matilda Centre, where interactive exhibitions and state-of-the-art displays bring to life the rich history of Western Queensland and the story behind Australia’s most famous ballad, Waltzing Matilda. Alternatively, enjoy a leisurely stroll through the charming streets of Winton. Departing Winton in the mid-afternoon, we return to Longreach. Relax over dinner before heading back to your accommodation for a restful evening.
Day 4: Wednesday – Longreach
Board the Heritage Rail Motors travelling west for the Great Darr River Run and take in the changing country as you encounter wildlife and bring alive the numerous waterholes, passing scrub and grasslands with incredible natural and cultural heritage. Step off the rail motors for a short Mulga walk, learn of bush medicines and the secrets of the Leander sand ridge. Enjoy a homemade morning tea after arriving at the beautiful Darr River waterhole.
Travelling east en route to the one pub town of Ilfracombe, with stories of nostalgia to tell your mates about for years to come. Feel the freedom of the vast open plains before disembarking in Ilfracombe to explore the unique attractions in “the Hub of the West” like the Wellshot Centre, the Machinery Mile, and grab some lunch at the famous Wellshot Hotel.
Late afternoon, join the Drover’s Sunset Cruise on the beautiful Thomson River. Unwind with on-board nibbles as you gaze out to a magnificent outback sunset. Following on enjoy live entertainment and a two-course camp oven themed dinner under the stars at Smithy’s Outback Dinner & Show while enjoying some true outback hospitality.
Day 5: Thursday – Homeward Bound
Your Outback adventure will come to an end when following breakfast, we transfer you to your point of departure.
